Poetry slam (online dating edition – the good, the bad, the very demure)
Frustrated with online dating? We are, too.
Taking Alice Slyngstad‘s work Flare demure as a starting point, this workshop makes space for your online dating experiences through poetry. Oscillating between mythical labyrinth and queer heterotopia, Flare demure seems to embody a portal into the world of online dating – into a world with its own syntax, ist own rules and performativity, regardless of the platform in use.
Participants are invited to bring excerpts from their own online dating stories. Each person will collage experiences together into a poem – attempting to somehow make sense of them. After this poetry-making session we will share what we have written in a poetry slam amongst ourselves.
We will navigate the endless swipe through endless profiles and discuss the good, the bad, and the very demure. Questioning how dating apps analyze and force us into performativity (from anonymity to exaggerated self-presentation), we will also examine the algorithm that apparently knows us better than we know ourselves and make art out of the digital flirt chaos.
